Human characters from Pokemon as actual fighters

This is a crazy idea I've been kicking around in my head for a few days. Instead of a new poke'mon or another trainer ala Red, what if a human character from the poke'mon franchise was himself a fully playable character? While I certainly wouldn't call it plausible to happen, I do think there's still merit to the concept because of a few reasons that sprang to mind:
